Beautiful conditions continue across the Tennessee Valley on this Tuesday afternoon. Not really a cloud in sky anywhere. Plenty of that classic early fall cobalt blue to go around! A light easterly wind at the surface continues to filter in around high pressure in the Appalachians, and that is keeping dry air in place for now. Temperatures this afternoon have been able to warm efficiently because of the dry air and clear skies, topping out in the mid to upper 80s. It’s perfect weather if you’re wanting to head out to the Middle Tennessee District Fair in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee this evening! Skies will stay clear, and that dry air means that temperatures will cool nicely near and after sunset, into the upper 70s by 6:00pm, down to 70 by 8:00pm, and into the mid 60s as fair activities wrap up for the night.

Clear skies will continue for the overnight hours. That, dry air, and light winds will mean efficient radiational cooling overnight, with low temps by daybreak dropping into the mid to upper 50s for most of us. However, a few folks south of the Tennessee River in north Alabama could hold closer to 60 degrees, and some of the sheltered valley spots in southern middle Tennessee may try to drop between 48 and 51 again. Expect near wall to wall sunshine once again for Wednesday, with temperatures topping out between 85 and 90 across the area. Skies stay mostly clear into Wednesday night, but a light southeast wind will keep the lower atmosphere a little more stirred up and also start adding in a little more humidity. That will help keep overnight lows in the mid to upper 60s.

A little warmer but dry the next few days. Rain returns Friday and the weekend and then cooler temps into next week. As we move into Thursday, temperatures will trend slightly upward, reaching the upper 80s to near 90 degrees areawide. Rain chances will increase starting Friday afternoon and continue into the night, with significant rainfall expected on Saturday and Saturday night. Forecast models suggest 2 to 3 inches of rain may lead to localized street flooding concerns during this period. By early next week, we anticipate clearing skies and a return to more comfortable temperatures, with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the lower 50s.
