First week of December looking cold and unsettled.

Good morning! Shew, it’s a cold start to the day, but nothing says ‘welcome to December’ like below freezing temperatures. Afternoon temps will reach the mid to upper 40s as cloud cover increases and thickens up ahead of widespread rain expected by late afternoon that will continue overnight. Rain may be heavy at times. This evening will be an excellent one to park on the couch with a good book or movie.

Tonight, rain continues to move through the Tennessee Valley as temperatures cool down to the mid 30s. The drier we get as rain moves out, the closer temperatures will fall to the freezing mark. I think most of the moisture will exit the area before surface temperatures fall to or below freezing. That being said, we can’t completely rule out some very light, brief wintry mix in southern middle TN. The chance is low and no impacts or accumulation is expected here in our local area.

Lows should get down to the freezing mark for most after all moisture is gone Tuesday morning. Clouds will stick around for the first half of the day and temperatures will stay cold. We will struggle to reach 40° Tuesday afternoon, but we may see a break in the clouds by afternoon, before sunset. Wednesday looks dry and mostly sunny, with highs right around 50 degrees. We can’t rule out a stray shower south on Thursday, otherwise just a few more clouds in the sky compared to Wednesday.

Rain shower chances are back Friday and will carry us into at least the first half of the weekend. Temperatures remain cold this week, with highs staying in the 40s and 50s. Low temps will be quite chilly as well, so have the warm weather gear with you all week.
