Hot and mostly dry this week, but relief may be in sight!

We know it can and does get hot in September, but this is much more like a mid July to early August afternoon! Mostly sunny to partly cloudy across the area on this Wednesday. Radar is quiet outside of one or two stray miniscule showers. Otherwise, it’s just hot out there today, with temperatures areawide up into the mid to upper 90s. Most of the Southeast continues to be quiet as we have this big upper-level ridge of high pressure over us that will continue through the rest of the week.

Those mostly clear skies will continue on through the overnight with a light northerly wind almost calm. Overnight lows areawide look to drop into the lower 70s. It’s another hot day for our Thursday, mostly sunny skies and less than a 10% chance of a stray afternoon short-lived shower. Daytime highs are once again running in the mid to upper 90s, and we can’t completely rule out someone briefly hitting 100! Mostly clear to partly cloudy skies will continue into Thursday night again with overnight lows into the lower 70s.

Things don’t really change much through the weekend. We stay parked under high pressure aloft, any frontal systems stay north, and we have microscopic rain chances on through Saturday and Sunday. That upper-level ridge does start breaking down at the beginning of next week though. We’re still very warm on Monday, but we start seeing a better chance of scattered showers and storms into Monday and Tuesday of next week. And then a cool front comes through that knocks our highs back to the mid to upper 80s and overnight lows back to the low to mid 60s by the middle of next week. And there is some very believable modeling that has temps cooler than this! We are just watching for more signs of consistency before we lower mid to late next week numbers even more.
