Temps are still pleasant, but summer heat returns ahead.

There is definitely an early fall feel to the air this morning across the Valley! Temperatures across southern middle Tennessee have dropped well into the 50s, and northwest Alabama is quickly dropping through the lower 60s toward the upper 50s. We still have a few more hours to go before we reach or morning lows. We have a few passing clouds from a dying disturbance just north of us, but we are otherwise calm and quiet early this Wednesday morning.

Expect mostly clear skies to continue again for today and tonight. Low humidity continues as well, and temps will climb into the mid to upper 80s by the afternoon, but a few folks in middle TN may hang near the lower 80s. We’re a couple degrees not as cool tonight, but temperatures will once again dip into the upper 50s to lower 60s.

We look to see a few more clouds on Thursday as a disturbance passes by to our southeast. It still looks like it rotates a little moisture back into the general area on its back side, and higher-resolution model data is agreeing that we may see a few spotty showers or thundershowers across the area during the afternoon. Because of this now not being limited to just near and east of I-65, we have slightly nudged rain chances up to about 20% for the afternoon, but it still looks like most people will remain dry. Just don’t be shocked if you see a brief shower or rumble of thunder between about 1pm and 7pm. Otherwise, partly cloudy skies are with us once again with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

We still hang on to partly cloudy and quiet weather through the weekend, but surface high pressure shifts off to our east with time. That allowing a more southerly low-level flow from the Gulf and a building upper-level ridge nudging in from the west mean we start shifting back toward warmer weather again as we head closer to the weekend and especially going into next week. Highs as early as Friday are in the lower 90s in most spots, and we continue to trend up from there. Rain chances stay slim to none through the weekend, but as the heat and humidity builds going into early next week, we may see a few daily isolated afternoon thundershowers return. The summer heat really cranks up again as the upper-level ridge centers itself closer to us or just to our west. Mid to upper 90s, at minimum, are likely Monday through at least Wednesday, and it’s very possible (if not likely) that there will be some triple digits again, especially over northwest Alabama.
