The cooldown has been nice… but triple-digits return soon!

As far as August is concerned, it’s been fantastic out there for the last little while – we can take today just as an example… we have widespread upper-80s/lower-90s, and LOW HUMIDITY, and it’s conditions like this that are hard to beat, if you ask me.

Fortunate for us, this is more or less what we keep for our Weekend, so the weather is fully cooperating as far as outdoor plans are concerned for the next few days. And in truth, we stay “nice” out for the next several days beyond that… but man, it is going to get positively TOASTY. Let’s take a look.

First things first, we can see that trend beginning for our Weekend, but all and all, we’re doing fantastic.

Today is certainly the “cooler” day of the two for our Weekend, which paves the way for that upward trend in terms of temps. By tomorrow, We’re back to the mid-90s, but triple-digits aren’t on tap for us just yet. Stay hydrated and slap some sunscreen on, and you’re just fine for today and tomorrow – oh, and the dewpoints stay relatively low, so we’re not horribly HUMID. It’s more of a “midwestern” heat in this aspect, so enjoy it!

Speaking of trends, though, it’s particularly obvious when looking at the pure temps for the next 7 days – and the beginning of the workweek really flips that switch towards heat.

As of now, it looks like the hottest portion of the week will be Tuesday and into Wednesday, with averages probably ending up somewhere around 100-101; but keep in mind, that’s just on average. In NW AL, some of us could very well end up seeing 104+ in some spots with how this heat is trending Also on that side of the state line, some of us could very easily see triple-digit heat Monday and Thursday as well, but that likely won’t be in the 104+ range… nevertheless, this little heat wave will be well and truly noticeable by the beginning of the week, though we start the trend back down by Friday.

This same timeframe, by the way, looks relatively drier than usual, as far as heat waves are concerned – this image shows one models relative humidity forecast for Wednesday, and that brown is particularly dry air (relative humidity values in the 20-25% range), which tells us it won’t be a HUMID 100, at least relative to some of the heat we’ve seen this summer – so the heat index values will be somewhat closer to the true temperature as opposed to 10+ degrees higher.

All and all though, the main story is that heat for now – again, likely peaking from Tuesday to Wednesday. After that, the temperatures cool back down and you may notice the RAIN CHANCES creeping in, too… Thursday has some isolated chances, but signals are pointing towards better rain chances by Friday – Next Weekend, so by the time we get there, I may be talking about ongoing rain… here’s hoping!
