Rain moves out today. Patchy fog tonight. Relatively dry week ahead.

Well, it’s safe to say most of us are sick and tired of the rain! Francine’s remnants brought us a ton of it. While it was much needed, the heavy rainfall did cause some flooding issues across the area. We also have a broken record! Muscle Shoals, Alabama has a new record daily maximum rainfall amount of 4.72 inches for September 14th. This shatters the old record of 1.15 inches.

The Tennessee Valley is now sandwiched between two disturbances. Rain off to our west and a tropical disturbance to our east, that is off the Carolina coast. That system is expected to stay to our east, but we have stray rain chances in the forecast for mid-week just in case.

Our weather this week looks less than active, to say the least. Minimal rain chances expected over the next several days. Clouds will continue to clear out today, leaving us with a partly cloudy to mostly sunny sky. Highs will reach the low to mid 80s this afternoon. Expect a mostly clear sky tonight, with patchy fog developing mainly after midnight. Lows tonight will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Tuesday looks to be mostly dry with some cloud cover at times. Expect highs Tuesday in the mid 80s. Patchy fog is possible Tuesday night as well, with lows getting down into the upper 50s.

Like I mentioned above, we have a stray rain shower chance both Wednesday and Thursday. This 10% chance is in place in case some very light showers move into the TN Valley from the tropical disturbance to our east. Not looking likely, but the slightest chance is there! Otherwise, expect a partly cloudy sky Wednesday and Thursday.

After the last several days of rain, this week will feel like a nice change of pace. Less gloomy, more sunshine, and warmer temperatures. I don’t expect us to get any warmer than the upper 80s, but that heat will build back in toward the weekend.
