Good Tuesday morning! After a rainy and stormy afternoon yesterday, we are looking at more of the same today. Showers and storms will develop during the afternoon and evening with the potential for widespread coverage. Some of the storms today could be strong with gusty winds, small hail, and frequent lightning. A severe storm cannot be completely ruled out containing some damaging winds and large hail. The tornado risk today is very low, but not necessarily zero. We will just have to keep close tabs on the radar today.
High temperatures today will be a bit tricky and will be entirely dependent on your location. Across Northwestern Alabama, there will be a lot more clouds around which should keep highs in the lower 70s. However, across Southern Tennessee, there has been a lot more sun to work with which should get highs into the middle 70s.
Going into the overnight hours tonight, a few showers or storms will remain possible with lows getting down into the lower 60s. Tomorrow morning, shower chances continue but as we get into the afternoon hours, only a stray shower or storm will be possible. Most places will just be dry with partly cloudy skies. Highs tomorrow will be in the lower to middle 80s.
Heading into the later half of the week, we will have a brief drying out period before more rain and storms move on in. Thursday will be the dry day with highs in the mid and upper 80s. Some places might flirt with the 90 degree mark, especially across Northern Alabama! Skies will be partly to mostly sunny. On Friday, showers and storms move back into the area along with the chance at some severe weather. Currently, the Storm Prediction Center has us under a slight risk (level 2 out of 5) for Friday into Saturday morning. Currently, it appears we will have to watch for storms during the afternoon and evening, but also during the overnight hours. While it appears that all forms of severe weather could be possible with this setup, exact details such as timing and the magnitude of the threats are uncertain. Keep checking back for the latest!
Over the weekend, additional shower and storm chances are possible with highs continuing in the lower to mid 80s.
