After a hot weekend, you are probably excited about the ‘slight cool-down’ part of the headline for the Tennessee Valley. I’ll talk more about that later on. First we can focus on today and much needed rain that’s coming our way this week. Chances not all that great today, maybe a pop-up thundershower or two. Expect highs in the upper 90s with heat index values in the lower triple digits. Tonight will be dry with lows in the mid 70s.
Tuesday features an isolated pop-up thundershower chance as well. Like with today, we can’t tell you where exactly they will pop-up. These are going to be typical summertime heat of the day type storms, that not everyone will see. Expect highs Tuesday in the upper 90s with heat index values once again in the lower 100s.
Better rain and storm chances come mid-week with a cold front that is forecast to stall out over our area (yay!!!) That means rain and storm chances will linger into late week. Showers and storms look to be widespread by Wednesday evening. This cold front will also knock highs in the 90s down to highs in the 90s for the rest of the week. We’re still getting a handle on just how long the front will linger in the Tennessee Valley, but we will likely see very beneficial rainfall to help knock away at our deficit. Models show about 1-2 inches area-wide.
Rain and storm chances will linger into the weekend, but it’s not an organized chance like mid-week. Count on a chance of rain every day this week, with better chance as the week goes on. Wednesday afternoon through Thursday holds the best chance for rain. Like I mentioned earlier, we will cool down slightly due to the frontal passage and increased cloud cover. Expect highs toward the end of the week in the 80s.
