Strong Storms Possible Late Saturday into Early Sunday…Very Nice Cooldown to Start Next Week!

Good Thursday morning! We will see a couple more dry days before our rain and storms move on in. Today, we will see abundant sunshine once again with highs in the low to mid 80s. This evening, temperatures will cool off into the mid to upper 50s by the time Friday morning rolls around.

On Friday, clouds will begin to increase across the area, but we will remain dry. Highs will be in the low to mid 80s once again. Winds will shift out of the south bringing in some more moisture to the area but it won’t feel too muggy during the day.

Our main focus will be the storms coming in during the late evening and overnight hours Saturday into Sunday. During the day on Saturday, we will be mostly dry with only some isolated showers possible. A line of storms will be ongoing to our west by the time the evening rolls around but that won’t arrive until around midnight, maybe later. The overall timing is still a bit uncertain. When the storms arrive, they will be encountering a less unstable airmass which should allow them to weaken to an extent. This will keep our severe risk on the very low end. Main threats will be some gusty winds within the line and locally heavy rainfall. An isolated damaging wind gust of 60mph and a brief tornado cannot be ruled out. By the time we get into the mid morning hours on Sunday, the bulk of the rain and storms should be well east of our area.

Even though our severe threat is on the lower end, have ways to get warnings in case they are needed especially with this being an overnight risk!

With it being Thursday today, our new drought monitor came out this morning. Most of us are either good to go or in the abnormally dry category, however, there is some moderate to severe drought still ongoing across parts of the NW AL/NE MS/S TN zone.

While the rain this weekend should help that, we are looking at another mostly dry stretch going into next week. Only some isolated to widely scattered showers are possible Tuesday.

Temperatures going into next week will be absolutely fantastic for Fall weather fans! Lows Monday morning will be in the lower to mid 40s with maybe some upper 30s in the more sheltered valleys in Southern Tennessee! Highs will be in the low to mid 70s. Another quick shot of cooler air arrives after the front on Tuesday.

Have a great Thursday!
