Temperature Rollercoaster Ride: brief warm-up to be replaced by much colder air.

High pressure remains nearby the Tennessee Valley not only today but for the next few days. It’ll eventually get the boot and our next weather maker will pounce in this weekend. Until then, enjoy the sunshine as we gradually warm up this week. Temps this afternoon will be in the mid to upper 40s, with the slightly warmer temps where they always are (NW AL). Tonight we will have a mostly clear sky, and temperatures will get quite cold, dropping down into the upper teens to lower 20s.

Our weather pattern stays calm through much of Friday. Wednesday will be slightly cooler, we will be knocked back into the lower 40s for afternoon high temperatures. We will have warmer temperatures for the rest of the week thanks to winds shifting southerly. Our next rain-maker arrives Friday night as cloud cover thickens up Friday afternoon, with temperatures in the 50s! That will feel like a heat wave for us, lol. Rain will continue to move through the Tennessee Valley Friday night and linger into Saturday. Moisture looks to clear the area before temperatures fall below freezing.

The warm-up will be brief, and will be replaced with MUCH colder air once the weekend system moves on out. You can see a preview of temperatures we can expect below. We will likely stay below freezing for more than a couple days next week, with low temps easily getting down into the teens.

Just like your favorite thrill ride, what goes up must come down. That’s the story of our temperatures this weekend. Enjoy the brief warmth before the rain moves in! Saturday is looking like a lovely day to spend indoors with a good book, or maybe some beginning-of-the-year projects you may have. Then, brace yourselves for the bitter cold to follow! Things are looking dry for next week so far, at least through the middle of the week.
