Summer Heat & Humidity Back With A Vengeance This Week

This week will feel like a sauna without the relaxing music or eucalyptus. The temperature begins to rise this week, with highs in the upper 90s and lower 100s expected Thursday through Saturday. As of now, it appears that the best days to be outside are today and tomorrow because the temperatures are relatively cooler and the weather appears to be mostly dry. On Sunday, temperatures will be cooler, but rain and storm chances crank up, so it still won’t be a pleasant time to be outdoors.

This morning was nice, with mostly clear skies and warm temperatures. Conditions should remain day except for a slight chance of isolated showers and storms. Today’s high temperatures will rangedry to from the upper 80s to the lower 90s. Tonight, temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-to-upper 60s.

Tuesday looks mostly dry with partly cloudy skies. It appears to be a beautiful day for being outside; however, temperatures will be in the lower 90s, so bring plenty of water and sunscreen if you intend to be outside. Temperatures will drop to the mid-to-upper 60s by Tuesday night. Conditions will be similar on Wednesday, with the exception of a slightly higher chance of pop-up showers and storms in the morning; however, it appears to be mostly dry once again.

On Thursday, we will see warmer temperatures in the upper 90s, with a few places seeing triple digits. Outside, it will most likely feel hotter than a jalapeno’s armpit due to the high humidity and hot temperatures. On Thursday, try to avoid any outside work or strenuous outdoor activities such as running, and drink plenty of water. If you must go outside on Thursday, please avoid the hottest part of the day, midday, and take frequent breaks from the sun in a shaded or air-conditioned area. On Thursday, I would also recommend wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and remembering some of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, such as dizziness, weakness, headache, muscle cramps, nausea, vomiting, rapid pulse, rapid breathing, confusion, agitation, and disorientation. If you or someone you know experiences any of these symptoms, get out of the sun immediately and seek medical attention. Aside from the extremely high temperatures, there is a slight chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day, but otherwise, dry conditions are expected. Temperatures will only drop to the upper 60s and lower 70s by Thursday night.

Moving on to this weekend, temperatures are expected to be even higher than they were on Thursday. High temperatures are expected to range from the upper 90s to the lower 100s. It will feel so hot that the birds will have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground. Please remember to dress appropriately for the heat, drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen, and avoid outdoor activities if possible. If you do go outside, try to avoid midday, and if you experience any of the symptoms listed above, please get out of the sun immediately and seek medical attention. Aside from the heat, the likelihood of pop-up showers and storms will be higher than in previous days. Temperatures Friday night will only drop to the lower-to-mid 70s, so it will definitely be a night you’ll want to put the fan on high. The heat continues on Saturday, and temperatures will be in the upper 90s, with a few places seeing triple digits once again. Continue to stay hydrated and take heat precautions. The chance of isolated showers and storms is higher on Saturday than it was on Thursday, but it appears to be mostly dry once again. Showers and storms become more likely as the night progresses, and they are expected to be scattered across the area, with low temperatures remaining similar to Friday.

Moving on to Sunday, we finally get some relief from the heat. Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 80s to lower 90s, with high humidity, so while it will not be the most comfortable day outside, it will be far more bearable than the previous few days. However, the slightly cooler temperatures come with the trade-off of showers and thunderstorms being much more likely on Sunday and will be scattered throughout the area, so it will not be the best day to be outside. Showers and storms continue Sunday night, and temperatures are expected to drop to the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Overall, this week looks hot, with temperatures rising to the upper 90s and lower 100s from Thursday to Saturday. As of now, today and tomorrow appear to be the best days to be outside due to the relatively cooler temperatures and mostly dry conditions. Sunday will bring some relief from the heat but at the expense of scattered showers and storms. Aside from rain on Sunday, the rest of the week will be mostly dry, with the exception of the possibility of pop-up showers and thunderstorms, which are common in the summer. This week, it is critical to prepare for the hot weather by staying hydrated and being aware of any signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
