Sunshine and warm temperatures continue. Rain and t’storm chances on the horizon.

It’s turning out to be another beautiful, sunny, warm day across the Tennessee Valley on this Monday. High pressure is currently in control of the weather over the Southeast, and that’s currently keeping all the unsettled weather off to our north and west. Temperatures early this afternoon are climbing through the upper 70s to the lower 80s, and they will likely go up a couple to few more degrees before we reach our daytime highs. Lows tonight fall back into the low to mid 60s with partly cloudy skies.

Warm weather will continue for the next several days. The big storm system in the Plains today is still west of us for Tuesday. However, clouds will be on the increase. A few showers will be possible overnight Tuesday night, but better chances of scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will be on tap for Wednesday. A couple of storms may be strong on Wednesday with gusty winds or small hail, but no significant severe weather threat is expected. The NWS Storm Prediction Center has our area in a low-end Level 1 of 5 risk of severe storms for Wednesday for the gusty winds / small hail threat, but the main dynamics and wind shear will be passing north of our area, and that will keep any severe storm risk in our area very low.

We look to continue an off and on unsettled pattern for the rest of the week and into the weekend. The Wednesday front hangs up just to our northwest, and multiple impulses ride along it providing waves of showers and thunderstorms. There will be additional time periods during the late week where we will need to raise rain chances beyond what we currently have (especially Thursday night into Friday, for starters), but remaining inconsistencies in exact timing of higher rain chances have us holding off for now. The front gradually settles into the area over the weekend, dropping daytime highs back to the upper 60s and lower 70s, with continued scattered shower & thunderstorm chances.
