Hit or Miss Weekend, but Milder Temps to Come

After a nice enough day as far as January goes, featuring only patchy upper-level clouds and typical temperatures for this time of year, we’re back to freezing (and below) for tonight and into early Sunday morning. Heading into tomorrow, we start to see the “miss” part of the “hit or miss” Weekend, compared to how today was… one large reason for that being the fact that it throws a bit of a wrench in the scheduled trend back towards milder temperatures as we head into the next 7 days.

If we’re lucky, we’ll scrape by with SOME mid-40s, but a lot of us probably won’t even hit that, and will be relegated to temperatures closer to the lower 40s, or near 40. This is doubly exacerbated by the moisture moving in – now, it isn’t a total widespread washout, but especially through the second half of the day, we’ll see some shower activity give us a bit of rainfall at times as a system to our south scrapes us, just barely. The better shot at showers is NW AL, but I suspect at least some drops of rain will make it across the state line when all is said and done (which will be Monday AM).

Once we exit the Weekend, we finally get back on track, especially headed into the mid-week, towards more mild weather… relatively speaking, anyways. We finally get back to the upper 50s and likely some lower 60s, which is practically TROPICAL in comparison to the last few weeks; a welcome change, especially if you’re a spring or summer lover like myself (which I wasn’t until these last few winters turned me!). Now, it’s worth mentioning that in some ways, we won’t “have our cake and eat it too”, in some respects – that is to say, if you’ve been itching to maybe get a little bit of outside time in without having to bundle up in 3 layers, we may have some rain to contend with at times. The pattern overall looks to be yielding an uptick in precipitation chances as we enter this last portion of January and into February, as the jet stream becomes a bit more active, so we only have a handful of days to work with that are drier (but on the bright side, this active pattern will help improve those drought conditions, which Fred talked about some just a couple days ago).

The 7 day visualizes that “off again on again” nature of the showers and rain chances over the next 7 days, and highlights those key days with clearer weather. Monday looks pretty nice at large, since the showers mostly leave by the AM, and Tuesday looks good too – Wednesday sees that scattered shower chance return, with the end of the Week and perhaps next Weekend seeing some more thunderstorm chances, though we’ll have to get a bit closer to get specific as to how that’ll evolve. Let’s take advantage of those milder days while we can!
