Sub-freezing low temps this week. A few tricks and a few treats for Halloween.

The cold front we’ve been talking about all last week has finally arrived, and I’m sure you can tell by just looking outside. It’s a gloomy and dreary day, to perfectly depict what a Monday feels like. It’s also quite spooky, setting the tone for Halloween tomorrow. It’s two things we haven’t seen in a while, rain and cooler temps. In fact, we are about 30 degrees cooler this afternoon compared to yesterday afternoon. We’ll stay in the 40s this afternoon, and only get colder from there.

Expect showers to continue on-and-off for the rest of the afternoon and early evening, eventually moving completely out of the area by 9 p.m. It’s not much ,but we really did need the rain around here. This rain will be taken into account for this week’s drought update that comes out later this week. After this evening, we’re back to bone dry conditions for several days.

Temperatures tonight will plummet below freezing, prompting a Freeze Warning for Southern Middle TN and Northeast MS, and a Freeze Watch for Northwest AL. This is in effect both Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Temperatures are expected in the upper 20s to lower 30s tonight, and mid to upper 20s Tuesday night.

As high pressure settles into the Tennessee Valley Tuesday, the sky will stay clear and temps will stay cold. It’ll be breezy Tuesday, with a crisp northerly wind. The good news for Halloween Tuesday? No rain! The bad news? Unless you’re dressing up as an eskimo or Chewbaca from Star Wars, you’re going to need several layers to stay warm for trick-or-treating. Bundle the kids up, and don’t forget yourself. Hats, gloves, coats, and a scarf would help out too. Don’t worry, we will gradually warm back up into the 60s and 70s by the weekend. However, we will stay dry with no additional rain in the forecast until next week.
