80s Stick Around – But 90s Return Late Week?

This first Weekend of August has treated us quite nicely compared to this last week or two, if you ask me… with our highs topping out in the 80s, it’s a welcome change of pace compared to the brutal heat we were experiencing just days ago. The sun has been a bit scant, with plentiful cloud cover these last couple of days, but look on the bright side – at least the UV index is lower! This trend of slightly below average temperatures will continue for a bit, likely being at it’s most pronounced tomorrow, but we’ll be closer to where we should be before long. Let’s break it down.

We wrap our Weekend up in a very similar way to how we started it – cooler than average with 80s (in fact, lower 80s) being the story for most all of us, but with somewhat higher rain chances. Now, it won’t be any sort of washout, but a consistent signal exists across multiple models we use to analyze the forecast that indicates an axis of thunderstorm activity pushing from the I-65 corridor and west through the afternoon. These will be those typical summertime-type storms, with some downpours and perhaps winds to 30-35mph; nothing severe, but perhaps keep an eye on your radar through the day (the Tennessee Valley Weather app notifies you if lightning is nearby!).

Now, don’t get too used to it – while we won’t be blisteringly hot again soon (in the way we were these last several days), we will slowly but steadily warm up through our workweek. By the end of the week and closer to the Weekend, we’ll very likely be sitting around 90, with heat index values approaching 98-99 by Friday – hot, but not “last week” hot – thanks to the continued humidity flowing into the region.

All and all the next few days are the best shot at some scattered storms for most of us with the rain chances becoming more popcorn like typical for this time of year from midweek and beyond this corresponding of course with our warmup as well in that second half of the week I think Im just about ready for fall myself
