Unsettled week ahead: daily thunderstorm chances.

Rain gear is going to be your best friend this week with daily thunderstorm chances on the board for the Tennessee Valley. Today is no exception with scattered thunderstorms expected this afternoon. No, it won’t rain the whole day but you may see a few storms while others stay dry. The Storm Prediction Center has part of our viewing area in a level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather, with main threats being gusty damaging winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning. A few spotty thundershowers may pop up before lunch time, but there will be a scattered storm chance for the rest of the day including the overnight.

Tuesday holds a similar scattered thunderstorm chance during the morning and afternoon as the unsettled pattern continues with waves of mid level energy passing through ahead of a mid-week cold front. While these multiple rounds of rainfall are certainly much needed come Wednesday we will have to monitor for localized flooding issues because these storms will have plenty of moisture to tap into. While we are not seeing signals for any organized severe weather threats, each day that has a thunderstorm chance this week holds the potential for a few stronger storms with the threats of damaging wind, heavy rainfall and frequent lightning. I don’t expect this to be a widespread issue, however, I would not be surprised if we are telling you about a few severe thunderstorm warnings in the viewing area this week. That being said, stay weather aware especially if you have outdoor plans!
