Good Thursday! We are looking at warm and dry weather for today but that will change once we get into late tonight and tomorrow. Expect highs today to be in the lower 70s for most places with a breezy wind at times. During the late evening and early overnight hours, we will be tracking a batch of showers and storms moving in from the west. Right now, we do not expect any severe weather problems but there could be a strong storm or two with gusty winds.

Our main focus will be tomorrow as more rain and storms move in. Currently, the best chance for some strong to severe storms will be during the evening hours. However, there have been some good trends we are seeing which would limit or completely squash any severe chances for us here. As the big area of rain and embedded storms develop, there is a good chance all the needed instability will be shunted to our south. This would push any severe risk down towards the I-20 corridor and leave us with just a soaking rain and some thunder. This isn’t set in stone, but it is a more probable outcome. We will just keep close tabs on things so for now, there is still a strong to severe storm risk for us if that boundary ends up further north. If we do see some severe storms, damaging winds and an isolated tornado will be possible.
With the heavy rainfall moving in, flooding will be a concern with 2-3 inches of rain expected, maybe some isolated 4-5 inch totals. Since we do have drought conditions across the area, the ground won’t be able to soak in all that rain if it comes down hard and fast. This would create some runoff and lead to flash flooding pretty quickly if the rain becomes heavy enough.

On Saturday, the front moves on through pushing the rain and storms out of here. During the morning our temperatures should be in the 60s, but during the afternoon we should see those drop into the 50s as cooler air rushes in. Much cooler weather is expected on Sunday with highs in the 40s and lows below freezing. We will eventually warm back up into the 50s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Have a great Thursday!
