Lovely start to the week. Increasing rain and thunderstorm chances.

No Monday blues here! We have a wonderful forecast ahead on this Monday across the Tennessee Valley. It’s cool to start so you may need a jacket this morning, but this afternoon temperatures will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Very comfortable with a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky. We are dry today and tonight, lows will get down into the mid 50s with increasing clouds early Tuesday morning.

You’ll want the rain gear with you Tuesday as you head out the door. It won’t rain all day but thundershower chances will be here morning, afternoon and night. Since we will see less sunshine, it will be a bit cooler, only reaching the mid 70s Tuesday afternoon. Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning there may be some thundershowers and thunderstorms around as well. Then, Wednesday afternoon we will catch a little break before scattered to widespread rain and storms move in.

The main round of thunderstorms comes late Wednesday evening, earliest timing right now looks to be around the dinner time frame. We are expecting pretty much area-wide thunderstorms, but a few storms especially on the southern end of the line could be strong to severe with damaging winds. The SPC has our viewing area in a level 1/5 risk north of the Tennessee River, and a 2/5 risk south of the river, to put things simply. This is a lower end type threat but still something we need to monitor. A lot of times, what ends up happening with setups like this, with the track of the low pressure being too far south for an ideal severe weather setup, is the northern portion gets cut off from instability and storm fuel, leaving the northern portion of the line as a rain and thunder mess. Where that line is drawn, is still to be determined. We’re watching it, so check back for updates!

After that line pushes through Wednesday night, we may have a lingering shower early in the morning Thursday, otherwise expect clouds to clear out and a bit of a cooler day. Highs will only be in the 60s Thursday afternoon. We are dry through Friday, before spotty thundershowers return to the forecast by the weekend. P.S- Sunday is Mother’s Day! This is your early final warning!!!
