It’s been raining all morning across the Tennessee Valley, and there is more where that’s coming from. Heavy rain continues for the rest of today, with a slight (and I mean slight) tapering off by evening, but rain will move back in overnight. Wednesday you can expect more of the same. Temperatures will be a bit warmer, with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s. That being considered, we may have some thunder tomorrow, especially in North Alabama. Rain finally clears out after midnight heading into Thursday, and we will be a bit chillier with lows in the upper 30s!

Thursday and Friday are looking cooler, but nice and dry. Enjoy the much needed break from the rain we will be getting! By the time the rain clears Wednesday night, just about everyone (if not everyone) will have seen several inches of rain. We will be monitoring a flooding threat through the end of the weekend. Our attention will now turn to Saturday, which features a severe thunderstorm threat for the Tennessee Valley.

Severe thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon through the overnight here in the Tennessee Valley. Severe storm ingredients have trended northward in recent model data, putting our area at risk for this threat. In other words, it’s not trending less favorable in any way as of right now. All modes of severe weather are possible, including damaging winds, a few tornadoes as well as flooding/flash flooding. Hail is not a major threat but certainly cannot be ruled out either.
As of now, it is looking like there will be a main squall line that will move through Saturday night. If thunderstorms develop ahead of the main line (afternoon to early evening), they could develop into supercells and we will be watching for a tornado threat. That being said, embedded tornadoes are also possible within the main line, as damaging winds will be the main threat with the linear-type storm mode. There will be morning rainfall, which could either further fuel a severe threat or it could put a damper on the risk. We will keep you updated on this evolving threat. I will say we have been watching it for a few days, and the larger-scale parameters have been lined up as we have been monitoring the trends. Stay tuned for updated, you can guarantee they will be coming daily. Additionally, Saturday is looking quite gusty aside from thunderstorm activity.
MAIN CONCERNS: afternoon supercell thunderstorms that develop before the main line, posing a tornado threat. Damaging wind gusts paired with a saturated ground, making it a bit easier for damage to occur & trees to fall. We cannot rule out the possibility of embedded tornadoes within the “main line” later in the evening as well.

With an active week of weather ahead, it’s crucial to stay informed and up to sate. One thing is always a guarantee- the forecast WILL change! We get more data, observe more trends, etc. All of this to provide you with the most accurate and up to date weather information. Stay tuned for those updates.
