Humid and Unsettled Is The Story This Week

As we quickly approach the first days of Summer in just a matter of days, the weather pattern lately (and coming up) certainly reflects that fact. Today so far we’ve seen a decent handful of showers and storms across the area today, and so far even a severe thunderstorm warning well off to our east! We didn’t quite see anything of that strength but certainly picked up some decent downpours this afternoon, and we solidly achieved mid-80s, and we may also still continue to see some precipitation linger through our Saturday evening and overnight, with our lows hovering in the upper 60s, to lower 70s… so a humid, mosquito type night in the Tennessee Valley, sticky in much the same way our day was.

Our Sunday in a lot of ways looks very similar to what we saw today, with consistent humidity pairing with mid-80s for highs leading to a humid and damp day across the area. There is a chance the shower/storm chances won’t be quite as widespread as today, but even if so that would represent some decent rain chances – I would certainly keep that umbrella on hand if we have any after church plans for our Sunday, though most of these showers will likely fade after sunset, though one or two could linger later in an isolated fashion. I hope you’re ready to rinse and repeat this kind of day, because in a sort of Groundhog Day way, that’s what we can expect to start our workweek, and we may not shake that so quickly, either…

Indeed, taking a look at some of our extended range models out into the next workweek, we see a consistent, day-after-day repetition of storm chances at least through the midweek. This is not a surprise, either – we will stay above average as far as temperatures are concerned, and this will be amplified too by the persistent humidity in the area, likely leading to heat indexes widespread in the 90s as a baseline, increasingly so as we head into the late week. All said and done, we’ll likely pick up another couple of inches of rain from this pattern – perhaps isolated spots of up to 2.5-3″ of rainfall. This is preferable to kicking our summer off with a drought, no doubt!

The 7 day reveals just how wet the pattern will stay, and it also shows you the slight warming trend we see taking hold over the next 7 days. In fact it’s expected that by the end of the week, we will have consistent 90s for daytime highs, but on the bright side, we MAY very well start to shake our shower chances off by the Weekend, though it could easily trend back towards rain given it’s still many days out, though current indications are drier around that time… which is a nice change of pace from the positively above average rainy season we’ve seen so far!
