Area-wide freeze expected tonight. Warmer weather ahead.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend full of rest. The air was crisp as you stepped out for the day today, and it’s simply a chilly March day. Highs may not make it out of the upper 40s for a lot of us, especially folks in southern middle Tennessee. We may see some lower 50 degree temperature readings in north Alabama. Expect a clear sky for the rest of today and tonight.

Tonight we are expecting an area-wide freeze with low temperatures well into the 20s. A clear sky and a relatively calm wind will help temperatures drop into the low to mid 20s. This cold has the potential to kill crops that have already been planted, and may even damage exterior pipes. Be sure to take precautions to protect any plants if you haven’t yet done so.

The good news, is this cold will not last very long. We will be back in the upper 50s by Tuesday afternoon, and 60s by Wednesday! We stay dry until Thursday, but cloud cover will increase some by Wednesday. Enjoy a calm weather pattern across the Tennessee Valley over the next couple days!

Our next rain chance arrives Thursday, with a few sprinkles by day, but scattered to widespread showers by night. At this time I do not expect any thunderstorm activity, just some moderate to maybe even heavy rain at times. I also do not see a flooding threat, as rain totals from this system look to be less than an inch. Simply put, it’ll be a gloomy end to the work week and you’ll need to break out the rain gear.

Overall, a pleasant and quaint weather pattern is in place for the next few days, until we get to Thursday. Clouds will thicken up, and rain showers will follow. Temperatures will warm as we progress throughout the week as well. Enjoy upper 60s by Wednesday before rain arrives Thursday. We stay relatively warm for the weekend and we will dry out as well. Not a bad 7 day forecast for mid-March in the south, if you ask me.
