Multiple thunderstorm chances throughout the week. Strong storms Wednesday?

Morning showers have cleared the area but cloud cover has been much slower to do so. We may see a few breaks in the clouds later this afternoon, as temperatures warm into the mid to upper 60s. We will be mostly dry for the rest of today, with scattered rain showers moving in after midnight. Lows tonight will be in the mid 50s.

Scattered rain showers will continue to move through the Tennessee Valley Wednesday morning, and scattered thunderstorms are expected as early as midday.

MIDDAY THUNDERSTORM CHANCE: In terms of midday thunderstorm activity, we expect these to be average storms, below strong or severe levels. The Storm Prediction Center has removed most of the viewing area from the low-end level 1/5 risk for severe storms for that time frame. Afternoon storm timing is 10am-6pm.

OVERNIGHT THUNDERSTORM CHANCE: We, along with the SPC, are still watching for overnight thunderstorm redevelopment. Minimal but sufficient instability and wind shear *could* be present in the far northern portion of our viewing area. This is a very conditional threat, based on how the atmosphere recovers from afternoon storms and where the storm ingredients become sufficient. We will be monitoring, but again, the threat is largely out of our viewing area.

We stay unsettled with more rain and thunderstorm chances throughout the rest of the week and into the weekend. A cold front will bring an additional rain and storm chance Thursday evening. Friday looks relatively dry aside from rain in the vicinity in the wake of the cold front. Another frontal system is lined up behind that one, which will bring rain and storms to the Tennessee Valley Saturday evening. So yeah, keep the rain gear with you this week- you’ll need it!
