Showers and storms this evening, and then warm but not quite as hot

Partly cloudy skies can be found across the Tennessee Valley on this hot Monday afternoon. However, a weak cool front is easing into the area, and this is starting to pop of scattered showers and thunderstorms across the area. Current temperatures are in the mid to upper 90s, a few folks even hitting 100 degrees! And with dewpoints in the mid to upper 70s, that is making for a very unstable atmosphere. Off to the north, temperatures are a little more relaxed, into the 80s and even 70s off to the north of us. Unfortunately, while we will shave off a few degrees the next few days, we won’t quite drop that much!

These showers and storms will continue to fill in and then dip southeastward across the rest of southern Tennessee and across north Alabama as we head on through the evening. A few of these storms could even be severe with damaging straight-line winds. By 9:00 to 10:00pm, the storms will be settling down and shifting south of our area, and then drier air begins its push into the area. We’ll see mostly sunny skies for Tuesday, still warm with lower 90s, but with a bit lower humidity. Most all of the storms look to stay off to our south over central Mississippi into central Alabama.

A few more storms are possible in our far western areas as we head into Wednesday as moisture moves back. We’ll be watching for a complex of storms to the northwest of us Wednesday night to possibly reach the are late overnight Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The storms are not likely to be severe, and the complex will likely be weakening as it arrives, but heavy rain, lightning, and isolated gusty winds will still be possible. Scattered showers and storms will linger into the afternoon and evening on Thursday with the next approaching cool front itself.
