Thanksgiving Week Forecast: Unsettled start, cold front flips pattern

Good Monday morning! Clouds increase today with a southerly wind that will warm us up into the upper 60s to lower 70s. There is a small chance of a shower or two in our TN counties before the main event of widespread rain and storms tonight. Showers and storms will become scattered to widespread after 8pm, and especially after midnight. There will be thunder and lightning overnight, and maybe a stronger storm, but overall we are not expecting severe weather in the local area.

Rain and storms will continue Tuesday morning and afternoon. By Tuesday afternoon, storms are expected to re-develop in North Alabama, and one or two of those could be strong with brief gusty winds up to 40-50mph, and small hail, however we believe that risk of a stronger storm will remain south of our viewing area. It’s something to keep in mind, and even aside from that, widespread thunderstorms are still certainly expected. However, we do not think we will be dealing with anything more than an isolated stronger storm or two.

The cold front bringing all the rain and thunderstorms will clear the area Tuesday night, and temperatures will cool off heading into the rest of the week. Wednesday is looking chilly with clouds to start, but sunshine by the afternoon. This starts our well-timed break from the rain as we head into the Thanksgiving holiday.

High pressure will be travelling to the Tennessee Valley for Thanksgiving (it must know where the good cookin’ is!) keeping us dry but cold! Expect a mostly sunny sky and calm conditions all throughout the southeast US!

This cold front certainly kicks off the week with an unsettled start, but we dry out just in time for holiday travel. Yes, it will be cold, so have on your layers for Thanksgiving plans and Black Friday shopping (lows in the 20s!)
