Unsettled start to the week, drier just in time for the 4th of July

Good Monday morning! We will have rain and thunderstorms to start off the week, but I have some great news. While the first half of the week will be unsettled, the end of the week is actually looking dry! And for once (it seems) it is going to really work out in our favor with the 4th of July forecast.

Expect sporadic pop-up showers and thunderstorms this afternoon across the region. Some models that are handling this morning pretty well are trending drier towards a more isolated storm coverage today. While I don’t want to immediately jump on that trend, it’s something I am keeping in mind. Scattered thunderstorms remain in the forecast for this afternoon and evening. I can’t rule out an overnight round of t’storms, either.

Things stay unsettled and stormy Tuesday across the Tennessee Valley with scattered to widespread rain and thunderstorms. Heavy rain and frequent lightning will be the main hazards. Heading into Wednesday, our dear old friend “High Pressure” takes a trip down to our neck of the woods- just in time for the 4th of July. Thursday (the 3rd) is looking dry and pleasant. We can copy and paste that forecast to Friday, the 4th! Woohoo! Great news for any and all celebrations, cook outs, boat rides, and fireworks shows. It’s about time we catch a break that will really be to our benefit.

High pressure looks to dominate our local forecast through the weekend, but with the heat and humidity building back up, we may see a few pop up afternoon thunderstorms by the afternoons on the weekend. Still nothing to cancel any plans over by any means. Not a bad 7 day forecast for early July.

The tropics have been relatively quiet this first month of Hurricane Season. While we’ve already had two named storms (Andrea and Barry), neither affected the U.S. There is a low chance for a disturbance in the eastern Gulf to become a more organized system, but the chance remains low over the next 7 days. That being said, it may be a bit stormy in Florida within the next week or so. We’re keeping an eye on things!
