Rain and thunderstorm chances every day this week.

Good morning and Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend. Rain and storms held off as expected, but of course now we are experiencing those today. Rain and thunderstorms will be around through the afternoon as they push from west to east, and chances will gradually decrease as we head into the evening.

While most storms today will be run-of-the-mill, I cannot completely rule out a stray strong storm or two in North Alabama with gusty winds and small hail. This will not be a widespread issue by any means, but the SPC does have part of our area in a level 1/5 risk. I do not think we will see more than a strong storm or two, at best.

Tonight as we say goodbye to widespread storm chances, there may be a few lingering thundershowers. However, most of us will stay dry overnight. Highs in the 70s this afternoon will fall into the upper 50s and lower 60s overnight.

Highs Tuesday will be in the upper 70s with a few isolated thunderstorms possible throughout the day. I think a lot of us will be drier Tuesday compared to today. Unfortunately, thunderstorm chances are here this week every day that ends in “y” (haha). We’re unsettled thanks to a boundary parking itself nearby, allowing multiple rounds of thunderstorms to pop off. It’s going to be like a summertime pattern this week, with storm chances mostly during the afternoons and early evening, then tapering off after sunset. While we can’t rule out a strong storm or two thrown into the mix, we are not expecting any organized severe weather threat at this time. As always, we will let you know if anything changes.

With daily storm chances, we could start to rack up a couple inches of rain. Here is what the GFS model is putting out, giving our area anywhere from 1.5-3 inches of rain through Friday afternoon. Locally heavier rainfall totals are possible. This week is not looking the best for outdoor events or sporting events, but we aren’t talking washouts. We’re talking random pop-up storms that could put a damper on your plans any given day. Stay weather aware if you have outdoor plans this week!
