Cooler start to the week. Changing temperatures with few rain chances.

Well, it’s certainly much colder than yesterday, but it’s still not feeling too bad out there! The northerly breeze will get you though. The common saying applies: “it wouldn’t’ be so bad if it weren’t for the wind.” The north wind will keep us feeling chilly, gusting 20-30mph throughout the day. Highs this afternoon will reach the low to mid 60s with a clearing sky. Again, not a bad day, but certainly cooler than yesterday. Clouds pick back up overnight, but we remain dry with lows in the low to mid 40s.

The good news about this week is we have a pretty calm weather pattern in place, aside from some temperature fluctuations. Tuesday features a small spotty rain chance, but most of the Tennessee Valley will remain dry. Wednesday and Thursday will be dry as temperatures warm up with a southerly wind in place. Heading into Friday, a cold front will be moving in, bringing rain and storms well to our north, but we expect it to lack moisture by the time it reaches the Tennessee Valley. That means our rain chances will remain minimal Friday evening and overnight. We still may se a few rain showers, but even thunderstorm activity looks very unlikely in our local area. We will notice, however, a temperature change! Don’t worry, it won’t be a dramatic one, but it will be noticeable.

While this week is starting off chilly, mid 60s for March really isn’t too bad! We get warmer by the middle of the week thanks to the wind direction change (back in the 80s by Thursday!) Our next cool-off will be Friday into Saturday with the dry-ish cold front moving through. Winds will be out of the north again by the weekend, so yes, it will be cooler, but no blast of arctic air or even cold air by any means. You know we’re getting closer to spring when our cold spells turn into ‘cool’ spells and they become much more short-lived. Temperature fluctuations are inevitable in the spring with the usual parade of cold fronts. Thankfully this week we stay storm-free, in fact mostly rain-free. Any calm week in spring for the Tennessee Valley is a week approved by me!
