The hot weather continues across the Tennessee Valley. We’re not going to see as many showers and storms today as we have the past few days, with rain chances only around 10%… but we may see a stray afternoon pop-up or two. Otherwise, we expect mostly sunny skies with daytime highs climbing into the mid to upper 90s. Heat index values will once again climb to a couple/few degrees either side of 105 this afternoon. A Heat Advisory continues across the entire area for this reason, and for our viewing area, that heat advisory runs all the way through Friday evening. Any stray afternoon thundershower will end during the evening with the loss of daytime heating, and then skies look to be mostly clear with overnight lows in the mid 70s. Those mid 70s overnight allow little heat relief from the daytime high temps, and that is a secondary reason for the heat advisory remaining in place.

Wednesday’s forecast will be a direct copy and paste of today for the most part. Mostly sunny skies with only a 10% chance of a stray afternoon thundershower. Highs in the mid to upper 90s with heat index values once again within a couple degrees either side of 105 or so. Things begin to change a little as we head late week and then bigger changes into the weekend and early next week as the upper-level heat ridge breaks down. This will allow for isolated thunderstorms to be a little more possible beginning Thursday afternoon and evening, and then scattered shower and thunderstorm chances start climbing Friday and Saturday before becoming what we would consider “likely” rain chances for Sunday into early next week… although even then, we’re still not exactly looking at a full washout or all-day rain by any means. As the heat ridge breaks down, the temperatures relax just a little bit, with highs easing back into the lower 90s (and maybe even upper 80s in spots) as we head into the weekend and early next week.
