Hot temperatures continue, although they relax a little by the end of the week for a couple of days. Rain chances go up at the same time.

The hot weather continues across the Tennessee Valley. After a hot Monday and Tuesday, we will be toasty once again for our Wednesday as daytime highs climb into the mid 90s after temps starting off in the mid to upper 70s during the morning. We will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy, but a few very isolated thundershowers will be possible during the afternoon, although they will be less numerous than they were on our Tuesday. Any storm may have lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds, but organized severe storms are not expected.

Heat index values will once again climb between 105 and 110 during the afternoon, and a Heat Advisory continues for middle Tennessee and north to northwest Alabama for that reason. An Extreme Heat Warning now includes west Tennessee and north Mississippi (including Hardin and Tishomingo Counties in our viewing area) where afternoon heat index values may be closer to 110 to 113. Please be sure to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks whenever you are able if you have to be outdoors for any length of time! Common sense stuff, but that doesn’t make it any less important…

Temperatures will relax a couple of degrees, back to the lower 90s, as we end the work week. However, heat index values will remain in the lower 100s each afternoon. A few isolated thunderstorms will be possible on Thursday, and then the rain coverage becomes more of what we would call “scattered” for Friday into the weekend and early next week as the core of the upper ridge weakens and shifts westward ever so slightly. At least as of now, no one day looks like a washout, but any day in that period could have scattered storms with lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds. Daytime highs may ease back closer to the mid/upper 90s again going into next week as the upper ridge tries to expand once again.
