Intense heat to start the week. Thunderstorm chances and a weekend cool-down.

If you thought last week was hot, this week’s heat will be even more intense. This morning is off to a partly cloudy start across the Tennessee Valley. A few thunderstorms will pop up by the afternoon, but they will be spotty in nature with some folks staying dry. Highs this afternoon will be in the mid to upper 90s with heat index values close to 110° in some locations. Remember your heat precautions the next few days. Lows tonight will get down into the mid 70s with thunderstorm chances winding down after 9pm.

Rain chances increase Wednesday and Thursday, prompting a cool-town toward the end of the week. Wednesday will still be quite miserable with highs in the mid 90s and heat index values pushing 110° but beyond that, the heat starts to ease up a bit. It of course comes with the trade off of increased thunderstorm chances.

We can expect a few thunderstorms this weekend as well, but the main thing you will notice this weekend is the absence of unbearable heat. Highs will only reach the mid 80s, although humidity will still be with us. However, we will very much so enjoy a nice 10-12 degree cool down this weekend.
