Snow chances in the Tennessee Valley late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning!

This is just a very quick and dirty initial update on the wintry weather and snow potential for our area late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. We will have a full blog discussion this afternoon…

Here is our first attempt at potential snowfall accumulations for late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Generally speaking, we expect a half to as much as 2 inches (that’s a range, don’t just focus on the upper-end and ignore the rest and then get mad when you don’t get it lol) along and north of a line from Iuka, MS to the Shoals metro, to near Athens, AL and then up through our southern Tennessee counties. As of this time, we think any accumulations greater than 2 inches would mainly stay north and northwest of our viewing area. South of that line we mentioned across north Alabama and northeast Mississippi, we expect any possible snow accumulations to remain under a half inch, and there very well could be several towns in this area that don’t get any accumulation at all. A little sleet may mix in, but we do not expect any significant ice accumulations with this event for any part of our viewing area.

Overall, this will be more of a nuisance type wintry weather event across our area instead of a major storm. While we do think some slick travel conditions are certainly possible, temperatures will be marginally around freezing or just below as the snow and wintry mix falls, and unlike the storm back on January 10th, we don’t have several days of cooling down the infrastructure (road temps, bridge surfaces, power lines, etc.,) leading into this. While some impacts are expected, this should be a much lower impact system than that one!
