Temperatures were downright disrespectful across the area early this morning! Check out the morning lows… all of our viewing area was near or into the single digits. A few places as cold as 1 DEGREE ABOVE ZERO. We will be cold again tonight, but not quite nearly as cold. Overnight lows look to range anywhere from the mid 10s to the lower 20s by daybreak under mostly clear skies. The thaw begins on Thursday though. Mostly sunny skies, with a few more clouds by afternoon, lead us to the lower 40s for most of the area with gusty south winds tomorrow.

We’ll have a couple more overnights down into the 20s, and then we’re on the uphill swing a bit even for overnight lows. Daytime highs tell the story though. After easing back to the upper 30s on Friday with a little clipper coming across with clouds and maybe a stray flurry, we’re near 50 for Saturday. Clouds and rain showers on Sunday keep us in the mid 40s for highs, but we’re back to the low 50s to start next week, and we’re in the mid 50s by Wednesday!

The 6-10 Day and 8-14 Day temperature outlooks from the NWS Climate Prediction Center suggest that we get a break from the cold air for a while beginning next week and heading into the first few days of February, with temperatures leaning near average to end the month and then trending a little above average as we head into the first few days of February. That means we will likely see highs in the 50s, and maybe even a few days in the 60s at some point. However, don’t let this make you believe that winter is over and we’re about to run head first into sustained warm temperatures! There are very credible signals that we will deal with more cool/cold air in February at times (maybe not quite as cold as now, but still cool to cold), and I wouldn’t be shocked if there are potentially more wintry precipitation threats along the way in February either! Time will tell…
