Hot start to the week. Increasing rain and storms into Memorial Day weekend.

If you’re already tired of the heat, there is some relief on the way! It will come at the cost of rain chances, which really look to ramp up heading into the rest of the week. As for today, we will be dry with a mix of sunshine and clouds. Expect hot and humid conditions again this afternoon, with highs reaching the lower 90s. I can’t totally and completely rule out a stray thundershower this afternoon/evening, but the chance is 10% or less. Tonight, lows will get down into the upper 60s with clouds still hanging around.

Heading into Tuesday, things start off dry with clouds around and some sun, which will allow temperatures to get hot once again into the upper 80s to lower 90s. Rain chances are minimal to isolated during the afternoon, but by evening and overnight we can expect scattered thunderstorms to move through the area. I don’ anticipate severe storms, but the Storm Prediction Center has just a sliver of our viewing area in a low end level 1/5 risk for damaging wind potential. A few storms west of Highway 43 in our viewing area may have brief gusts 30-40mph, but it’s looking more likely that we simply see rain and lightning. This, however, will be the first of multiple rain and storm chances for the rest of the week.

Daily scattered to widespread thunderstorms are expected Wednesday and beyond, unfortunately through Memorial Day Weekend. I don’t anticipate a complete washout of a weekend just yet. Hold on to your plans, but watch the forecast carefully to see how your outdoor plans may be affected. We’ll let you know when to start thinkng about indoor plans as opposed to all the outdoor fun you probably already have planned.

Because of the multiple rain and storm chances on the board, I would not be surprised in the slightest if parts of the area pick up 4+ inches of rain by the time the week is over. It won’t all fall as once, and we still need the rain, but by the weekend we may have to monitor flooding potential, especially given increased plans near local bodies of water. This is your early heads up to a stormy Memorial Day weekend, that could pose some degree of a flooding threat. Again, no need to cancel plans just yet, but keep this in mind and keep checking back for forecast updates.
