Up and down temps next few days, weekend rain chances, and then warmer weather next week.

Sunshine returns to the Tennessee Valley today, but we are still firmly in the clutches of chilly air. It will continue to be breezy today with northwest winds of 7 to 13 mph that may gust as high as 20 mph at times. That might make the daytime highs of the upper 40s to lower 50s feel more like the low to mid 40s instead. Clouds increase going into tonight, and while the wind does calm down, its direction becomes more southerly. This means we’re likely to only get down to the mid to upper 30s. Friday will be a warmer day with southerly winds taking hold once again. Despite increasing clouds, that southerly wind from the Gulf will help warm us into the mid to maybe upper 60s across the area.

A weak frontal system will shift down into the area beginning tomorrow night, and that will begin the weekend rain chances for the area as early as our Friday evening. Low pressure rides along to the front as the front goes stationary to our south. That impulse will bring rain showers to the area off and on for Saturday, Saturday night, and into Sunday, with the best rain coverage likely during Saturday evening and overnight. No severe storms, high winds, or any other high impact type weather is expected. That system shifts out Sunday night, and we’re back to sunny skies by the start of next week. We will also start to see more of a southerly wind by early to mid next week, and that will lead to a warmer weather pattern. We go from the upper 50s to near 60 over the weekend to the low to mid 70s as we head into the first half of next week. After the weekend, our next rain chance looks to be late Wednesday into Wednesday night when showers and thunderstorms look to return to the area.
