It’s a typical early/mid summer afternoon across the Tennessee Valley on this Tuesday. We have a mix of sun and clouds across the area, with warm temperatures, as well as scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. The heaviest storms are producing frequent lightning, gusty winds of 30-40 mph, and heavy downpours.

Those scattered showers and thunderstorms will hang on into the early evening and then eventually fade out with the loss of daytime heating, although we can’t rule out a stray shower or storm into the overnight. Lows tonight will be into the low to mid 70s. Scattered showers and storms get going again tomorrow, with isolated activity possible as early as the morning before coming more widespread from the midday and afternoon into the evening. Some of the rainfall may be locally heavy, and a few storms may produce gusty winds. All storms will have frequent lightning. Daytime highs will be from the upper 80s to the lower 90s across much of the area, with one or two communities in north Alabama possibly as warm as 93-94 if they have a good bit of sun before storms arrive.

Widespread rain and storms will continue into Thursday and Friday ahead of a weak frontal boundary that will sink into the area and washout. That widespread cloud cover and rain will keep high temps a couple degrees cooler, mainly into the mid/upper 80s for most folks. Daily rain and storm chances will be around from the weekend into next week, but they become more hit-or-miss again. That means more sun and temperatures nudging back into the low to mid 90s for afternoon highs as a result.
